“New and Old”: Time as the Matter of Art

“The new is just the well-forgotten old.” — Rose Bertin

With this reflection, the group exhibition New and Old takes shape within the spaces of Galleria360 in Florence.
A title that already evokes tension, dialogue, and metamorphosis: new and old are not opposites, but two poles of a continuous cycle where every transformation is also memory, and every memory is already change.

The works selected by curator Angela Fagu move along this delicate line of balance: some celebrate permanence, while others question transformation. In every case, time becomes a visual, conceptual, and emotional substance.

The “new” brings innovation, rupture, provocation, and rebirth; the “old” preserves tradition — roots, layers, echoes.
Through different artistic languages, the exhibiting artists explore the tension between what has been and what is yet to come.
The integration of ancient and contemporary elements generates unexpected harmonies, while the contrast of forms and materials reveals fractures, resistances, and new possibilities.

New and Old thus invites us to reflect on time as a creative space — a time not to be measured, but to be lived. A time that art can make visible, tangible, and shareable.

The opening evening will feature a complimentary aperitif and live music, celebrating the encounter between art, thought, and conviviality.
