Intervista a Melinda Garcia

“[…] In the city we see the proof of the prosperity of the generations who built it; the conviction is at once forced upon us that they must have enjoyed a long succession of wise rulers […].”

(Goethe, visiting Florence in 1786)

Florence has always had a privileged relationship with elegance and beauty. Its artistic masterpieces, its places and alleyways steeped in historical memories, its lively cultural atmosphere have made it the city of art par excellence for centuries. In fact it is between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that Florence becomes a fundamental and privileged stage of the Grand Tour: a journey of formation and intellectual and social experience, lasting about a year and a half, regularly undertaken by young lions of French and Germanic nobility, but above all British, by artists, writers and men of culture.

The capital of the Grand Duchy, the “most beautiful city in Italy” for François-Jacques Deseine in 1699, enthuses Goethe¸ Jean Pierre Vieusseux, Johan Zoffany, Oscar Wilde and many others for the collection of ancient statuary and precious stones artifacts from the Uffizi Gallery; generates admiration for the masterpieces of great artists such as Masaccio, Michelangelo, Leonardo or Raffaello; it amazed by the ingenious water games and the topiary art of the Boboli Gardens, or marvels at the sudden appearance of the colossal statue of Giambologna’s Apennines in the park of Pratolino.

In a city with a cultured and irreverent soul at the same time, which has never ceased to be a fundamental destination for international tourism, the Art Director Angela Fagu and Architect Riccardo Piagentini, in a unique synergy between contemporary art and history, give life to a real “international artistic tour” with the exhibition “Art in Florence”.

In the place of origin of aesthetic meditation, in the ancient beating heart of artistic expression, “Art in Florence” is an art show that promotes the multilingualism of current art, offering an overview of different techniques and languages and encouraging an emotional and intellectual participation by the observers.

The inauguration of “Art in Florence” exhibition will take place on Saturday 10th of February 2018 at 19.00, in Via il Prato 11r, Florence. During the Vernissage a welcome cocktail will be offered and jazz musicians will play live. Then, the exhibition will be open until the 3rd of March 2018, during the gallery’s opening hours.
