Biography: I am a contemporary figurative painter who currently lives and works from my studio in Hamilton, New Zealand. Through a focus on the human figure set within the domestic milieu, I examine moments of transition, where decisions need to be made and consequences felt and explore the complexity of human emotion and identity. Interested in how cinematic conventions and contemporary media can be employed in painting, I film my subjects, capturing moments that might otherwise go unseen. While faithful to my photographic source, my work hovers between figuration and abstraction and questions paintings unique ability to sustain and destroy the tradition of representation simultaneously. Born in 1966 in New Zealand, I completed my Master of Arts majoring in painting with distinction in 2015. My work is held in private collections in New Zealand and Australia and I currently exhibit in New York City, Naples and New Zealand.
