"Simplicity is resolved complexity.” (Costantin Brâncuşi)
According to a famous anecdote in 1926, a Costantin Brâncuşi’s artwork was blocked at the customs of the port of New York: the official who had the task of checking the expedition could not identify the object that the Romanian sculptor had brought to the United States for an exhibition.
A diatribe arose between the artist and the customs officer about the identification of the mysterious object. In the end the customs officer, not at all convinced by Brâncuşi's declarations, classified the object in the category "Kitchen Utensils and Hospital Supplies", instead of "works of art".
The artwork in question is the Bird in space, of which the sculptor realized several copies between 1923 and 1940. What had troubled the customs officer, and with him many art lovers and visitors to the exhibitions in which the work was exposed, it was the total lack of concrete references. And actually in Brâncuşi’s Bird in space you can not see wings, beak or plumage but rather a perfectly smooth and polished material that in its absolute formal synthesis manages to evoke the essence of flight, of upward momentum. Although simplicity is not the true end of artistic creation, for the Romanian sculptor it constitutes the unavoidable stage of arrival of an art capable of grasping the real meaning of things: "simplicity is complexity itself".
In an era like the present one, which tends to be dominated by the search for spectacularization and artificiality, the architect Riccardo Piagentini and the Art Director Angela Fagu, open the new 2019 artistic season of the Galleria360 with an interesting exhibition that attempts a renewal of artistic feeling, through the rediscovery of the forgotten virtue of simplicity. In the exhibition "New ART", international artists are in fact confronted with different techniques and languages demonstrating how true art does not necessarily have to strike, shake or rape those who benefit from it, but rather know how to evoke emotions, sensations, feelings. These are works that are capable of making the unknown visible and of translating the complexity of the concepts that govern our lives in a simple, familiar language, devoid of artificiality.
"New ART" is therefore an exhibition whose intent is to propose a new artistic status, a new art; an art that is, that refers to itself and whose greatness resides in its simplicity, uniqueness and therefore truth.
"The profound truth, to do anything, to write, to paint, lies in simplicity. Life is profound in its simplicity" (C. Bukowski," Hollywood, Hollywood ").
The exhibition will be inaugurated on Friday 11th January 2019 at 7.00 pm at the Galleria360, in via il Prato 11r, Florence. During the Vernissage a welcome cocktail will be offered while Jazz musicians will play live.
